Word to PDF for Reviewed DOC and DOCX Output

Drop files here

Use Word to PDF when a DOC or DOCX needs a stable delivery copy. TiPDF asks for explicit upload approval, sends one file to the configured Gotenberg service and validates that the response is a real PDF.

  • Runs Word to PDF for one DOC or DOCX up to 50 MiB
  • Requires approval before remote conversion
  • Checks the returned file for a valid PDF signature

How the Word to PDF conversion works

The Word to PDF converter uses a server-side office rendering service because a browser alone does not contain the complete Word layout and font engine. After you approve remote processing, TiPDF uploads the selected DOC or DOCX to its configured Gotenberg endpoint. Gotenberg routes the document through LibreOffice, returns rendered PDF bytes and identifies the request with a trace value.

TiPDF accepts the response only when the service reports success and the downloaded bytes begin with a valid PDF signature. The output is named from a sanitized version of the source filename. A configurable timeout defaults to 120 seconds and is bounded between 10 and 300 seconds; a slow or unavailable service produces an error instead of an indefinite waiting state. If Gotenberg is not configured, the page cannot complete the conversion.

This workflow aims to reproduce the office application's printable appearance, but it does not promise pixel-perfect identity with Microsoft Word. Font substitutions, unsupported fields, macros, external links, tracked changes, embedded objects and application-specific pagination can change. The Word to PDF converter creates a reviewable derivative; the DOC or DOCX remains the editable authority.

Word to PDF inputs, output and service limits

Word to PDF accepts one .doc or .docx file. Because this is a server-tier job, the input limit is 50 MiB rather than the 100 MiB local-tool limit. Empty files and documents over the cap are rejected before upload. RTF, ODT, spreadsheets and presentations have separate tools.

Word to PDF returns one .pdf without overwriting the source or saving an edited DOCX. The same DOCX to PDF and DOC to PDF renderer may reject protected, corrupted or legacy documents that LibreOffice cannot open. This page does not collect a document password or bypass protection.

A successful HTTP response is insufficient: the server checks that at least five bytes were returned and that they start with %PDF-. This prevents an HTML error page from being mislabeled as a document. Visual inspection is still required.

How to run Word to PDF safely

  1. 1

    1. Prepare the Word to PDF source

Accept or reject tracked changes as appropriate, update fields and the table of contents, confirm page size and save the latest DOC or DOCX. Embed fonts only when licensing and the source application allow it.

  2. 2

    2. Choose one document

Select the file in the Word to PDF workspace. TiPDF validates the extension, signature, non-empty size and 50 MiB server limit before enabling processing.

  3. 3

    3. Approve Word to PDF upload

Read the remote-processing notice. Continue only if the document is suitable for the configured service and select the approval checkbox; without consent the request cannot be sent.

  4. 4

    4. Run the Word to PDF converter

TiPDF sends the file to Gotenberg/LibreOffice and validates the returned PDF signature. Timeout or service errors are shown rather than hidden.

  5. 5

    5. Review Word to PDF output

Open the PDF beside Word. Check page count, headings, line breaks, tables, images, hyperlinks, equations, headers, footers and fonts before distributing the copy.

When Word to PDF creates a useful delivery copy

Reports and proposals

Use Word to PDF to freeze a reviewed draft into a broadly viewable attachment. Keep the editable source and compare every page around tables, figures and manual breaks.

Policies and handbooks

A Word to PDF release copy can record a dated version after fields and the table of contents are updated. Future revisions should begin from the controlled Word source.

Resumes and letters

Reduce reflow differences between recipients, while checking whether custom fonts were substituted by the service. Never assume the first output preserves a carefully tuned one-page layout.

Client submissions

Convert Word to PDF when a portal requests the format, then verify metadata and file size against the portal's requirements. TiPDF upload approval is separate from submitting the finished document elsewhere.

Word to PDF layout, fonts and interactive content

LibreOffice interprets Word document structures, but rendering engines differ. Missing fonts can change line breaks; floating images may move; tables can split; fields may display cached values; equations or embedded objects may be simplified. Macros are not a supported feature, and external resources may be unavailable.

Review at 100% zoom and inspect page breaks. Test links and confirm whether comments or tracked changes should appear. A PDF is less convenient to edit, but Word to PDF conversion does not make content accurate, accessible or legally approved. Verify those qualities in the source and result.

Word to PDF upload and privacy boundaries

Word to PDF is not a local document operation. After approval, the file is uploaded to TiPDF and forwarded to the configured private Gotenberg service. The code does not establish a universal deletion schedule, storage location or operator policy, so this page makes no automatic-deletion promise. Deployment owners must govern their service.

The PDF remains on your device, while the source stays where you selected it. TiPDF cannot delete local copies, backups or later shares. Do not approve remote processing for material your policy forbids sending to the configured environment.

Word to PDF questions

Why does Word to PDF upload my file?

Accurate office rendering needs the configured Gotenberg/LibreOffice service. TiPDF displays a remote-processing notice and requires approval before sending bytes.

Will the PDF look exactly like Microsoft Word?

Not guaranteed. Rendering engines and installed fonts differ. Compare page breaks, tables, images, equations and headers before sharing.

Is Word to PDF online free?

TiPDF does not place a checkout in this workflow, but a deployment must configure its document service and access policy. Remote approval is always required.

What if the service is not configured?

The Word to PDF converter returns a clear configuration error. A valid Gotenberg HTTP or HTTPS endpoint is required.

Can I convert a protected document?

Only if the service can legitimately open it. TiPDF does not collect a Word password on this page or bypass protection.

Does conversion delete my DOCX?

No. The source remains on your device. The project code does not prove a universal server deletion policy, so deployment-specific retention must be reviewed separately.

Test method and product notes

Word to PDF capability copy was checked against the registry, upload approval gate, server API and Gotenberg integration on July 18, 2026. Integration tests validate DOCX rendering when a service URL is available; exact Word fidelity and deletion claims are excluded.
